Times Tables Rockstars
A good knowledge of times tables (including the division facts) is an essential part of the progress children make as they follow our maths curriculum. We aim to establish times tables fluency through a wide range of approaches, all geared towards establishing a confident and holistic understanding of multiplication and division.
Our children start learning their tables with counting in 2s before following the sequence below.
- x2, x5 and x10
- x3, x4 and x6
- x7, x8 and x9
- all tables up to x12
Our children love practicing using website Times Tables Rockstars (see below), which offers a fun, easy option to improve their recall.

Towards the end of year 4, children sit the government’s Multiplication Tables Check. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. The MTC is a useful tool that we can use to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided in upper-key stage 2.
